John Humphrey, a former non-league player, appeared twice for Exeter City when on loan from Millwall. Injured in his second game for the Grecians, he never played in the Football League again and soon returned to playing non-league football in the South-East.
John played youth football for Godalming and Molesey before attracting Millwall’s attention when appearing for Leatherhead. Having also had trials at Bristol Rovers, Cambridge United and Tottenham Hotspur a £30,000 deal took him to Millwall in February 1991.
Never playing in the first-team for the Lions, John - then aged twenty-two - arrived at Exeter City on a short loan in December 1991. Making his debut away to Brentford on 22 December 1991, misfortune struck in the Boxing Day fixture at home to Shrewsbury Town when John was carried off with a knee injury to prematurely end his time with the club.
Returning to the Den, John featured only for the reserves and eventually signed for non-league Aldershot Town and later featured for Uxbridge before returning to Leatherhead.
