CHALLENGE FOR EXETER LADIES

The EXETER LADIES football club is fast becoming one of the teams to beat in the Womens Western League. Exeter are sharing second place with Newport and on Sunday they meat Warminster, the champions and present league leaders at Wyvern Barracks, Exeter (2:30)

It is a mighty task facing Exeter because Warminster are unbeaten in their last therr seasons in the league and their top scorer, Eileen Forman is now a regular member of the England team

Exeter have lost only once this season, and this game could be a showpiece for Womens soccer. Teams from Cornwall and South Devon are travelling to watch the game, and the whole of the Western League will be looking to Exeter to break Warminster hold on the league. Although doing well in the league, Exeter have been unlucky in the cup, having been knocked out of the two competitions by Plymouth, however they now have a semi final to play against Tiverton in the Dean Trophy, and a quarter final match against Newport in the Pat Sowden Cup.

The league, though, is the first priority. It is second only to the Home Counties League where Spurs, Q.P.R. Chelsea, and Southampton battle for honours. Already Exeter's  name is high on the list of English clubs, and a good result against Warminster will enhance their name even more.

Despite their success on the field. Exeter still lag behind the top clubs for suport, Warminster, for example, average more than 200 supporters for home matches compared to Exeters 50. they hoped that Sundaywill see a more realistic attendance for this top match.

WOMENS CLASH

Exeter meet Warminster tomorrow, in the Western womens soccer League at Wyvern Barracks 2:30 p.m. The referee is M. Wogen, with S. Bowley and M. Godbeer the linesmen.

WOMENS SOCCER

Exeter became the first side to defeat the Western Womens soccer leaders Warminster this season with a 2-1 victory at Wyvern Barracks on Sunday in a match that proved to be a good advertisement for Womens football.

The England international Eileen Forman, put Warminster ahead in the 20th minute, but Exeter hit back with goals by Julie Dunlop and Ness Byrne. Exeters skipper, Sue Carpenter, (photo), had a fine match keeping a tight rein on Forman throughout.

The crowd of just under 200 was the biggest for a womens soccer match in Exeter.
