Report by Maxine Coupe
Exeter welcomed Swindon Town to Exwick Hub in a FAWNL match on Sunday 10th December and produced a masterclass performance resulting in a 9-0 win.
Exeter started in a 3-5-2 formation and it was the pace of the wing backs Amber Pollock & Matilda Franchi who were causing problems all afternoon for the Swindon defence.
Exeter started at a blistering pace and were 3 up after 7mins through goals by Connie Pengelly after a great through ball by Pollock and then composed herself to chip the keeper, Lemoni Gouldstone after another Pollock run evaded 2 defenders & crossed to Gouldstone to score & Matilda Franchi, a free header after a free kick from Pengelly.
Exeter were dominating the ball and were playing their best football of the season, keeping the ball well and with great interchange of play between all the players.
It wasn’t till the 30th min when Exeter got back on the scoresheet. Great interplay between Gouldstone, Abi Whistler & Pollock resulted in Pollock being brought down for a penalty which Pengelly dispatched. Only 2mins later Pengelly made a lovely cross field pass to Franchi at the back post who controlled and hammered into the net. Half Time 5-0
Deputy Manager Harry Moreton made a change at Half time replacing the influential Ellen Dixon who had a slight injury with Holly O’Neill who was making her first appearance of the season.
Exeter were soon back in the goals with Gouldstone scoring her second of the game on 49mins after Whistler played her in and she calmly slotted home as the keeper advanced. Pengelly got her Hat trick on 52mins when shooting from outside the area & over the keepers head.
Abi Harrison & Lauren Bullock replaced Ellie Sill & Gouldstone on 57mins & Bronwyn Cousins & Paige Mcdonald-Bale replaced Izzy Baker & Ella-Mae Miller on 65mins. Pengelly got her 4th of the game on 66mins when after she was fouled, she struck a free kick from 30yds. Harrison then got herself on the score sheet with the final goal of the game on 73mins when O’Neill, Franchi & Jess Cockayne combined for Harrison to score.
Final whistle and a fantastic performance by the girls with Pengelly being awarded the Player of the Match
