St Catherines, first known as East Avon Athletic, began life in 1976 in the second Division of the Women's Western League, quickly gaining promotion to Division I. "St Catherines have an enthusiastic bunch of players willing to give 100% for a team well managed by Steve King. Last season (1980/81) was their best season to date finishing 3rd in the Western League. They also reached the Quarter-finals of the W.F.A. cup, where they eventually lost to St Helens"
