Newport Ladies F.C. (Noel Trigg) were formed in 1970, when they entered the Welsh League. After winning 6 League Championships Newport decided to join the Women's Western League to give their side more competition. Since joining the league in 1976 Newport have constantly provided a challenge to their opposition, and have never been a team anyone expects to beat. When Exeter joined the league in the same year as Newport, our first competitive match was at Wyvern Barracks against them, with the Welsh side beating us 4-2. Since then, we have had many entertaining games against the club with honours more or less even between us. Newport's players have always figured strongly in the Welsh Squad, with seven of their present squad having played for Wales at some time in their footballing careers. Newport are once again sponsored for the season by Noel Trigg Sports.
