Newport Strikers

Newport City Strikers LFC started life as Newport County LFC and was formed in 1991.
Initally an U16 team was established and for the first few years they played regular friendly matches against other South Wales teams. In the 1994/95 season the girls completed an historic double. In their first competitive action they won the South Wales girls U16 and the Welsh Cup, beating the favourites Bangor City on the road to the final. With a number of players becoming too old to play at U16 level the decision was made to form a senior team for the 1995/96 season. The team was entered into the South Wales Celtic League, the League Cup and also the Senior Welsh Cup. Continuing the trend set by the junior team, they swept all before them and won the domestic treble.

With a number of the junior side also playing in the senior team, the U16 side struggled to continue their success of the previous season by failing to defend their double. However, they did manage to win the League Cup in its inaugural season.
