Exeter WFC Reserves v AFC Bournemouth Development

Exeter hosted Bournemouth on Sunday at Exwick Hub in the FAWNL Reserve South West league and came narrowly close to taking a point.
Bournemouth who only needed a point to claim the league title, started strongly and it was clear to see why they were Champions with there fluent football. It was on 9 mins when an unfortunate own goal from City gave the visitors a lead. It was quite a tight contest first half with few chances being created. Both teams keeping the ball well but just not finding any creativity to score. However Bournemouth were to go in at half time with a 2 goal lead after Eliza Bryant-Rowe had saved an initial shot.
Exeter had to come out strong for the second half if they were to get back into the game, but it was Bournemouth who scored there 3rd goal on 54mins. Exeter could have crumbled after that but instead they started a great fight back. Not letting there heads drop, and with a sizeable crowd encouraging them on, Exeter eventually got back into the game. A corner from Connie Pengelly was sent deep and there was Steph Beck at the back post to score on 64mins. Momentum was now with Exeter & on 67mins Pengelly would score with a great shot from 25yrds. Game on. Bryant-Rowe was keeping Bournemouth at bay was some outstanding saves and as the game was closing in, Exeter had one final chance to level with the final kick of the game, however a free kick by Pengelly 20yds out, hit the cross bar.
The Exeter girls were disheartened at the end but they can take encouragement that they gave the league champions a hard fought game. Player of the match was awarded to midfielder Steph Beck.

An entertaining contest at the Hub, Steph Beck and Connie Pengelly with the City goals
