Biographical Text
Fred Weaving, from Amersham in Buckinghamshire, had turned out for the youth and reserve teams of Chesham United prior to joining the Royal Marines during the late 1950s. Offered a trial by Exeter City when he was serving at Lympstone, Fred soon concentrated on refereeing and became a member of the East Devon Referees Association in 1962.
Remaining in the services, he officiated in military football all over the world before returning home and continuing to referee in the Hellenic, Spartan and Isthmian Leagues. Later becoming a referees’ assessor, Fred was a well-known figure in Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire football circles until his death in his early eighties in 2023.Picture and information:
