Biographical Text

Jack McMillan, a defender from Scotland, joined Exeter City from Partick Thistle ahead of the 2024/25 season. Starting with Motherwell, he had also previously been with Livingston.

Hailing from Livingston - and primarily a right-back - Jack joined Motherwell on a full-time basis from school in 2014 and made his first-team debut against Celtic in October 2016. Going on to make a sixteen appearances for the club whilst still a teenager, he signed for Livingston on loan early in the 2017/18 season before the move was made permanent in January 2018. A member of the first-team squad over the following twelve months, Jack had featured on 26 occasions prior to seeing out the remainder of the 2018/19 season on loan to Partick Thistle for whom he made sixteen first-team appearances.

Returning to Livingston at the start of the 2019/20 campaign, Jack featured in about half of the club's games that term but less so during the subsequent two seasons and had clocked up a further sixty league and cup appearances for Livi when he moved to Partick Thistle on a permanent basis in June 2022. Making 52 appearances for the Jags in 2022/23, followed by another 37 in 2023/24, Jack was twenty-six when he arrived at St James' Park in June 2024 with 207 first-team games (11 goals) under his belt for his various clubs.

Starting the new season in the team, he was one of six players making a first league start for City in the 1-0 win over Rotherham United on 10 August 2024 before scoring his first goal for the club in the 2-2 home draw against Wycombe Wanderers in December 2024.

Rarely capturing the headlines, and playing through City's defensive frailties in mid-season which necessitated an almost complete remoulding of the defence, Jack proved to be one of City's most consistent performers during 2024/25 as he played in nearly every league game and in each of the club's FA Cup and League Cup ties whilst also scoring in the final home game of the season against Huddersfield Town. For his efforts he was duly named 'player of the year' by his team mates.
