Sir Robert Newman, later Baron Mamhead, was an Exeter City director in the 1920s.

Sir Robert, born in October 1871,  inherited the baronetcy of Mamhead near Dawlish on his father's death in 1892. He was MP for Exeter between 1918 and 1931 sitting as a Conservative from 1918 to 1927 and an independent from 1927 to 1931. Also a Deputy Lieutenant of Devon, justice of the peace and former member of Devon County Council, he was raised from the baronetcy to become 1st Baron Mamhead in 1931.

Aside from serving as a director of Exeter City, and a member of many other local bodies, he was president of the supporters club immediately before the war. Dying in November 1945 at the age of seventy-four, and with no immediate family, the title of Baron Mamhead became extinct.
