St Sidwells Winter.

Team:-Robinson; Ashford, Bailey; Wallage, Davies, Morgan; Sellick, Winter, Eveleigh, Coles, Thomas,

Played at the College Ground, the match had been anticipated with great interest in Exeter, St Sidwells started down the hill, but when they tried passing, they were pulled up by the College Backs, The College goalkeeper stopped a hot shot from one of the St Sidwells Forwards, but after a further attack by the United, Thomas put through to net, but the goal was disallowed for offside play, They kept u the pressure however, and Winter scored, "St Luke's came away in a fast rush and Vincent sent in a shot which was too hot for Robinson to hold, and the scores were level, St Luke's were then awarded a penalty, from which Brooks scored a 2nd goal, The College made rings around St Sidwells in the 2nd half, and goals were scored by Aldworth, Calleway, Williams and Vincent,

This was the only Association Senior League match in Exeter on Saturday between St Luke's College and St Sidwell's United on the College ground, when the students won by five goals. The initial half was of a fairly even character, the visitors scoring the first goal through Winter. The Collegians then secured two goals in quick succession, one being from a penalty owing to a foul within the area. It was anticipated that St Sidwell's would do better playing down the hill in the second half, but the Collegians gave a surprisingly good display, and pierced the Saints defence on four occasions. During the latter portion of the contest the visiting combination became thoroughly disorganised. The College backs and forwards combined well together. The defence was extremely sound, both backs being very safe. Brooks, who is a clever back, rather spoilt what otherwise would have been a fine exhibition by too free indulgence in gallery play. Brooks's name has been mentioned as a plaver likely to secure a place in the district team for the West against the East.

The Training College goal-keeper, Towers -gave an exceedingly fine exhibition, and negotiated a number of shots most skilfully. The College forward line play well together, and to get by Bailey, Ashford, and Robin- son on six occasions is in itself a tribute to the great form they were in on Saturday. Robinson, in goal, played a very creditable game in the first half, but in the latter por- tion he deteriorated considerably. He shouid learn to dispose of the ball more promptly. Bailey and Ashford (who turned out for the Saints for the first time) did well, the first-named particularly being noticeable for some very good work. They. however, received very little help from the half backs, and this was where the weakness lay. Davies, the centre half back, had one of his off days. He is really a forward, and has hardly got suited to his new posi- tion. He was exceedingly slow on Satur- day. Wallage was the best of the line, but he failed to feed his forwards as frequently as he might have done. Winter played a good game at forward, but he could never get going owing to lack of support
