The St Sidwell's United met with another reverse in the League competition, having to acknowledge defeat at the hands of the 111th Battery by three goals to one.
The Saints were weakened by the absence of Bailey and Davies. They made a good fight of it in the first half, being only a goal down on crossing over. Sellick scored a beautiful goal afterwards, but the soldiers put on two more and won as stated. They were superior on the day's play. Their forwards shot whenever they got within range. and gave Robinson a warm time. The outside right was a thorn in the side of the defence, and a goal scored by him was one of the finest seen on the ground. The soldiers are a well-balanced team, and work finely together. The Saints were greatly weakened by their absentees. The forwards combine well, but show an unaccountable hesitancy in front of goal. Thomas was much at fault in this respect, and frequently passed out, when he should have shot. Wallage played a great game at half, while the backs got through a lot of hard work creditably. Ash- ford being the better of the two.
Scorers
St Sidwell’s Sellick,
111th Geare 2, Druary.
Junior League Game
EXMOUTH ROVERS 3
St SIDWELLS UNITED RESERVES 1
In the Junior League the St Sidwell's Reserves have lost their unbroken certificate. They went to Exmouth, and had to acknowledge defeat by three goals to one. It was a surprise, although the Rovers have been playing very well lately. Prior to Saturday the Saints had not had a goal scored against them in the competition. Their attack was weakened by the absence of Russell.
The visitors attacked hotly at the outset, but relief came, and during most of the first half play was fairly even. Just before the interval Stooke scored a fine goal for the Rovers. In the second half the same player notched two more, while West scored once for the visitors.
