St Sidwell's United 8 Devon Regiment 2,

In the match played at the Hoopern Fields, a large number of spectators were given a game well worth watching, although only a friendly. The forwards of both teams were verypowerful, splendid combined play being witnessed, First bood was drawn by St Sidwell's per Eveleigh, who played a thoroughly vigerous game throughout Eveleigh soon scored again, then three other goals followed from Sellick, Thomas and Davies respectively. Heath scored for the Devon Regiment, When play was resumed in the 2nd half, the Regimental team made some severe attacks upon the United goal Johnson centreing again and again in fine style, but the forwards were very weak in shooting. Reath eventually scoring again, and this had the effect of putting the Sidwellians on their mettle, with the result that three further goals wereput on two by Eveleigh and one by Davies,

A Good Start,

St Sidwell's started their season proper when they met the Devon Regiment at Hoopern Fields. The sides met a week or two ago at a practice. On that occasion the Saints suc- cumbed. On Saturday, however, they showed some of their real form, and the fact that they put on eight goals to two by the Regiment leaves no doubt whatever as to the relative merits of the elevens. This splendid victory confirms me in the conviction I have before expressed that

Si Sidwell's will have a very good season if they can keep their team together. I don't think it is necessary to impress upon the Committee the importance of playing the same team every week if possible. They know something about football Sil Birdwell's way. I hope soon to have the opportunity of seeing the team perform in one of their best fixtures. The scorers on Saturday were Eveleigh (4), Davies (2), Sellick and Thomas. Heath was responsible for both pointe for the Depot.

St Sidwell's Reserves drew with Belmont, each side scoring a goal.
