St Sidwell’s v St David’s
St Sidwell’s v St David’s
20/12/1902
Af Mount Pleasant. St Sidwell's played their best team, but Payne was absent from the StDavid's team, his place being taken by Godwin.
Considerable interest was manifested in the Junior League encounter between St Sidwell's and St David's, which took place on the ground of the former. The game was fought out in very good spirit. The victory of last season's champions of the League was due to the splendid combination and footwork of their forwards. The first goal might be questioned as being an "offside" one, but there was no doubt about the fairness of the others. The St David's, men made big efforts after the interval, and Lavis scored what was acknowledged to be the best goal of the match. St David's are eager to again try conclusions with their rivals, and hope to make a much closer fight when the return game takes place at Hoopern.
St Sidwell in the first half were favoured with a strong wind, and in the last quarter of an hour in the opening half scored through Sellick and Coles, while Godwin put through his own goal from a corner. In the second moiety the game was splendidly contested, Eveleigh scoring for Sidwell's. and Lavis, after a brilliant individual effort, putting through for St David's
