St Luke's College Reserves v St Sidwell's
Culm Valley v St Sidwell’s Reserves
SATURDAY 21st FEBRUARY 1903,
St Luke's College Reserves v St Sidwell's
At Magdalen Road,
St Sidwell's Chiefs came another cropper on Saturday, having to admit defeat by three goals to two at the hands of the Col- lege Reserves. Coming directly after the failure to beat Plympton in the Junior Cup, it looks as if there is something wrong with the team. The "Saints" even now have a splendid record for the season, these being the only two losses, but unless they "buck up" next Saturday it is likely that they will sustain a third defeat. Well- ington have a very good record this year, and intend giving the Exonjans a good game on the Wellington ground.
St Sidwell's will have to play their best to win. The serge town players are anticipating the visit with a considerable amount of interest.

Culm Valley v St Sidwell's Reserves
In spite of the gale which blew over the ground at Silverton, the game between Culm Vale and Si Sidwell's Reserves was an interesting one. It was also well contested, the teams being very matched. The "Saints" owe their one-goal victory solely to making the best use of evenly opportunities. The Valley men played exceedingly well against the strong wind, and came near scoring on more than one occasion. The combination of the forwards was really excellent, in spite of the great difficulty to control the ball against such a strong wind. If this combination had only been maintained in the second half and the same dash infused into the play the homesters would, no doubt, have won. Though they did all the pressing after the interval, a considerable weakness was shown in front of goal, and they only succeeded in netting on one occasion. The Valley team have improved wonder fully of late. The Club only came into existence this season, and several of the menibers were absolute strangers to the game previously. But owing to the enthu siasm of all connected with the team and the excellent coaching of "Captain" Petrie (who is a splendid centre half) and Messrs. Maitland and Thompson the team is rapidly developing into to a really strong organisation. After a season or two's ex perience, if the present improvement continues, the Culm Valley XI. will be a side to be reckoned with in the district.
At Silverton, this game was played in a gale. In the first half, with the wind behind them, the Saints notched a couple of goals. The homesters, who did nearly all the pressing after the interval, were only able to net once, through Rawdon. Result:
St Sidwell's Reserves 2-1 Culm Vale
