St Sidwell's United v Exeter YMCA
League
Saturday 5th October 1901
St Sidwell's United 7-2 Exeter YMCA
St Sidwell's United played their first League match on Saturday last, Exeter Y.M.C.A. being their opponents. Unfortunately the home team were again minus two of their best players. They showed very poor form in the first half, during which time the Y.M.C.A. scored a goal; but in the second they improved. When Sellick put them level they woke up, and the forwards could not be checked, and when Morgan gave them the lead the Y.M.C.A. gave out and the home backs were practically idle during the last twenty minutes of the game. Sellick added two more goals, quickly followed by Thomas, and the game did not finish till Eveleigh, taking a long shot, had also scored, thus giving St Sidwell's a five goals victory, the score being: St Sidwell's United seven goals: Y.M.C.A., two.
Scorers:
Sellick 3, Eveleigh 2, Thomas, Morgan
On Saturday next St Sidwell's are home to St. David's, and for the first time this season St. Sidwell's will be able to put out their full strength and should give St David's a good game.
St Sidwell's team will be :-Goal, Robinson; backs, Flood and Campbell; halves, Avery, Mann and Hawkey; forwards, Morgan, Sellick, Thomas, Eveleigh and Coles. Kick-off 3.15 sharp.
