St Sidwell's United v St David's
Saturday 12th October 1901
St Sidwell's United 6-2 St David's 2
St Sidwell's were home again on Saturday. when great interest was taken in their League match with St. David's. St. David's were without Mitchell, but otherwise had their best team, who are a fine set of young fellows. Their weak point seems to be in their shoot- ing, and had a little more steadiness been shown they must have scored more than two goals. Berry and Maunder played well and were the best men of the team. Hutchings, in goal, played well, and could not be held responsible for either of the goals that were scored.
Lavis, Marshall, and Westaway were the pick of the forwards, but lost chances through over-eagerness. The three halves were pretty safe, but could not check the home forwards.
St. Sidwell's, by winning by six goals to two, bagged another two points in their League contests. They played a fine game. Robin- son, in goal, was safe. He stopped some ugly rushes and cleared his goal finely. The backs were, as usual, safe, and the halves fed their forwards well. The dribbling and passing of the latter were neat and quick, and the way they tricked their opponents was a feature of the game. Thomas was especially prominent. Although they may not be the better team by four goals they were far the better team in their play, which gave them their fourth vic- tory.
