Match Report 2
The most important match in the Exeter district was that played between St David's and St Sidwell's United, on the former's ground at Marsh Barton, which was won by St David's by 2 goals (Berry and Smeath) to 1 (Sallick). SE David's fully deserved their win, and the score truly indicates the merits of the teams. The game, however, was marred by roughness at times, and both sides were frequently penalised for fouling. With regard to individual play, Robinson performed finely in goal for the losers, but Flood and Campbell were off colour at back. Mann played hard at half. The best part of the United team, however, lay forward, where Coles, Sellick and Eveleigh were the pick.
Hutchings, the home goal-keeper, was in good form, and Maunder at back was cer- tainly the best man on either side, and played a fine game throughout. Carter, Smeath and Lavis did well among the forward line, Carter particularly putting in some splendid work. The result gave the winners their sixth suc- cessive victory, whilst St Sidwell's were beaten for the first time this season.
