SATURDAY 8th FEBRUARY 1902,

Crediton Y.M.C.A v St Sidwell’s United

The above match takes place to-day (Satur-day) on the ground of the former. A keen struggle is anticipated. This will make the third time that these two teams have faced each other this season. In the first match (which, by the way, was the first played by the Y.M.C.A.) the Saints had a day out, and rubbed it into the Y.M.C.A. to the tune of 7 goals to nil. In the second, they again won, but by a narrower margin, viz, 2 goals to nil. So in this after-noon's match I shail expect the Y.M.C.A. to at least draw them. It is a pity for the former, that the Town Rugby XV. will be playing Barum, as this match will no doubt form a great attraction to lovers of football. I have heard rumours that the Y.M.C.A. will be minus one of their best forwards in the person of Setter, who is on the sick list. With such an important match on, this is to be regretted. I am told that Brooks will be making his appearance again in the team, after a long absence. My advice to the Y.M.C.A., is, each stick to your mao, play for all you are worth, don't get disheartened, go in and win. A report of the match will appear in next week's Chronicle.

Played on the ground of the former on Satur- day last, resulting, after a very one-sided game, in a win for the Saints by nine goals to one. From the start there was only one side in it. The Y.M.C.A. seemed to be all out of it, in fact, everything they attempted to do seemed to go wrong. Perhaps this is partly to be accounted for by the fact that there were three notable absentees from their team. There is no doubt that the Y.M.C.A. were let down dreadfully by their goal-keeper. At least six of the goals shoul i have been easily stopped. I never saw such "soft" affairs as some of them were. Searle played a very good game for the Y.M. To Chiller, though. belongs the greatest credit of all. Had it not been for him the score would have been much higher than it was. The way he stopped ugly rushes was a treat to witness. All the other members of the team were decidedly "off."
