St Sidwell's v St Leonard's

Saturday 22nd February 1902

St Sidwell's v St Leonard's.

Home This game, was played at Pinhoe-road

St Sidwell's are evidently falling off. Their display in the last two matches has been anything but equal to the form exhibited earlier in the season. There has been no combination or steadiness. They seem to be suffering from "swollen heads, and have consequently been over-confident. They had better get rid of this at once if they want to finish the season well. Perhaps the fact that they have not been under- going their usual training has had something to do with their falling off in matches. I would advise them to renew this at once, for the remainder of their matches are important ones. They include Newton G.W.R., Crediton Grammar School, Torquay, and the Training College Reserves. The game with the latter will be the final struggle for the League championship. The "Saints" played St Leonard's on Saturday, and were very lucky to effect a draw. The visitors were the better team on the day's play, and should have won. Their front rank were a fine lot. They were smart on the ball, and not nearly so selfish as their opponents. Their half backs, too, played extremely well.

St Sidwell's, who head the list, only managed to draw with St Leonard's, who are at the bottom. The College Reserves beat Friernhay by four goals to nil. St Sidwell's will have to beware, or they will be ousted from their position.
