Season Summary
1901-02
JUNIOR LEAGUE CHAMPIONS.
By defeating St Luke's College Reserves on their own ground in March 1902, St. Sidwell's became champions of the Exeter Junior League, and winners of the cup. They have attained this position by marked consistency of form. In Saturday's game they rose to the occasion in grand style. The first half produced a lead of two goals for them, scored by Thomas and Sellick. The College afterwards netted from a penalty, to which Thomas replied, and the end was a win for the Saints by three goals to one. I congratulate the victors on their well- deserved success.
The Exeter Junior League competition for this season is now over, with St Sidwell's at the head. The "Saints" deserve the position they have gained. They have been playing consistently throughout the season. The players have displayed plenty of enthusiasm, and have shown the greatest loyalty. They are to be congratulated on their honour. The College Reserves, the runners- up, have exceptional opportunities for practice and training together, and therefore the credit due to the "Saints" for their performance is all the greater. St David's have also done well, but the other Clubs are a long way behind, as the following table will show:-

The challenge cup in this competition was won by St. Sidwell's United, a team which beat more than one senior eleven.
Play.
The Association League tables are definitely settled. In the first division of the English Leaque, Sunderland lead with 44 points out of the 34 games played, and they are the only eleven whose losses have not run into double figures. They won 19, lost 9, and drew 6, and scored 50 goals against 35. Everton, who are second, won 17, lost 10, and drew 7, scoring 53 goals against 35, and gaining 41 points. Newcastle United (37), Blackburn Rovers (36), Notts Forest and Derby County (35), Bury, Aston Villa, and Sheffield Wednesday (all 34), and Sheffield United (33) follow in the order named. At the other end, Manchester City (22) are far below their nearest rivals for the wooden spoon. Small Heath (30) are just a point below Stoke and two short of Grimsby Town, Wolverhampton, Notts County, Bolton Wanderers, and Liverpool. Next season will find West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough in the first division instead of Small Heath and Manchester, who will be relegated to the second division. The famous Albion have won their reinstatement in the premier league by wonderfully con- sistent play. Out of 34 matches, they gained 25 victories, the other games resulting in 5 draws and 4 losses. They thus ran up 55 points, and scored 82 goals against 29. Mid- dlesbrough won 23, lost 6, and drew 5, and their goal aggregates were :-For, 90; against, 25; and points, 51. Preston North End and Woolwich Arsenal (42) come next, and then Lincoln City (41) and Bristol City (40). Stockport County (23) and Gainsborough Trinity (19) are at the bottom.

EXETER JUNIOR LEAGUE.
Annual Dinner
The first annual meeting of the Exeter be and District Junior League took place at the Bude Hotel, Exeter, on Saturday even- ar ing. The Mayor (Mr. A. E. Dunn) pre- sided over a large attendance, including the a Revs. H. S. Wyatt and S. F. Hawkes, in Messrs. R. Davey, S. Herbert, E. Bradley w and others.
The annual report of the Committee stated that the League had justified its existence, and had, to a certain extent at any rate, attained the object for which it no was formed, viz., to increase interest in Association football in Exeter generally, and amongst the junior clubs in particular. Eight clubs entered for the League compe- to tition (the matches of which aroused much interest) but one withdrew. The Devon County Association had given a silver cup, valued at £10, to be competed for as a per-ta petual trophy, and also eleven silver medals N for the members of the champion team. Thirty-six matches were played altogether.
St Sidwell's were at the top of the list with 21 out of a possible 24 points. St Luke's to 2nd XI. were second with 19 points. In conclusion thanks were tendered to the official referees. The balance sheet showed a balance in hand of £1 58.
The report was adopted on the motion of Mr. E. Pulman, seconded by Mr. J. B. Dennis.
Mr. R. Davey was re-elected chairman, and Mr. J. L. Wilkinson secretary of the League.
The Mayor handed over the cup to Mr. W. Morgan, captain of St Sidwell's, and medals to the members of the side. Then, on behalf of St Sidwell's Club, he pre- sented Mr. G. West, the energetic secretary with a gold medal in recognition of his valuable services.
The Mayor was thanked for attending.
The rest of the evening was spent in har- mony. The Mayor gave "The King," and other toasts were "The Exeter Junior League" (proposed by Mr. Herbert, and acknowledged by Mr. Wilkinson); "The St Sidwell's Club" (proposed by the Rev. S. F. Hawkes, and responded to by Mr. A. Mann. Between the toasts capital songs were given. The proceedings concluded with "Auld Lang Syne" and the National Anthem.
