Torquay District v. Exeter City

Exhibition Match at Plainmoor
21/04/1920

In order to advertise the Association Code, the full Southern League side of Exeter City visited Torquay on Wednesday evening, April 21, and met a Torquay District side composed mostly from the Babbacombe and Town clubs, in what proved a good exhibition game.

The District XI had the best of the opening play, and Biddick scored a splendid goal. The Exonians then displayed their skill, but found the home defence in excellent form. Torquay pressed, and a fine shot by Biddick was cleared by Pym, and Gartrell had to save twice at the other end.

In the second half Goodwin equalised for the City, and shortly afterwards Makin obtained the lead. The City "ran rings" round the amateurs in the final half-hour, and further goals were obtained by Goodwin (2) and Makin (2).

The "gate" realised £84, and the watch competition £50.
