EXETER CITY RESERVES 8

(Dymond, Sutherland 3, Evans 3, Fallon)

TORQUAY UNITED RESERVES 0

Half-time Exeter 5 Torquay 0.
Southern League, at St James's Park.
Attendance 5,000.

City Reserves:- Hoyle; Coles, Rowe; Walker, Davey, Jeffrey; Dymond, Granville, Sutherland, Evans, W.Fallon.

Torquay Reserves:- Caseley; Keeton, Markham; McDonough, Whitfield, Cothliff; G.Jones, Jewell, Kelly, Beeson, Thomas.
Exeter City Reserves, who are unbeaten since October 4th, continued in grand style and outclassed a plucky but ineffective Torquay side at St James's Park, scoring eight times without response in a one sided encounter which would have been farcical but for the dogged Torquay defence and occasional flashes of brilliance by Thomas. The best second team Exeter have fielded for nearly twenty years delighted the biggest Southern League attendance at St James's Park this season.

  • ANOTHER BLANK SATURDAY FOR EXETER CITY.

Due to the new rule which forbids Cup replays in midweek Exeter City were without a match for the second consecutive Saturday. Last week Port Vale could have played their League match with Exeter at St James's Park, but the Football League ruled that the friendly match which had been arranged between Port Vale and Lincoln City at Lincoln would have to be played. This afternoon the City should have met Walsall, but the latter were engaged in a replayed F.A.Cup tie with Norwich City. Accordingly the Southern League match between the City Reserves and Torquay United Reserves was brought forward from February 21st 1948.
