Exeter City v Torquay United
Friendly
Saturday, January 10th 1953.
St James's Park, Exeter.
The extent of United's improve- ment must have surprised Exeter City last Saturday when Torquay won the friendly match by 3-1. Mills was again a masterly schemer. and Shaw, well on form, crossed some excellent centres, from one of which Muir put the side ahead after 27 minutes. Albert Calland kept in the scoring picture with a goal ten minutes from the interval. Another Shaw centre, midway through the second half, enabled Collins to in- crease the margin. The City re- plied with a penalty in the late stages of the game. Before Drink- water was injured and moved to the wing, United showed themselves far superior and played a type of football that could not fail to im- press the 5395 crowd.
