Biographical Text
Wales under-21 defender Ed Turns joined Exeter City from Brighton and Hove Albion on transfer deadline day at the start of February 2025. Born in the Sussex seaside town, he had previously played on loan for Leyton Orient (where he won promotion) and Crewe Alexandra.
Starting his scholarship/traineeship with his home town club in 2019, Ed turned professional in 2021 and made his first-team debut against Swansea City in the League Cup in September 2021. Switching to League Two Leyton Orient on loan in January 2023 he enjoyed a successful time at Brisbane Road as he started 16 league games, scored twice and helped the East London team win promotion and the divisional championship.
Signing a new deal at Brighton in the summer of 2023, Ed returned to Orient on another temporary transfer (17 league and cup appearances) before seeing out the season on loan at Crewe Alexandra for whom he made a dozen league appearances.
With in excess of forty league appearances under his belt from his various loans, and having made his Welsh under-21 debut in June 2022, the 22-year-old defender made no further first-team appearances for Brighton in advance of joining Exeter City on a two-and-a-half year deal on 3 February 2025. He subsequently made his debut eight days later in the FA Cup 4th round tie against Nottingham Forest but was sent-off towards the end of normal time.
Returning to the team after suspension for the game at Reading at the start of March 2025, Ed thereafter proved to be a reliable member of a remoulded defence - alongside Angus MacDonald and the returning Alex Hartridge - that helped City to a comfortable mid-table finish in League One. Proving to again being a regular member of the squad during 2025/26 he scored his first City goal against Newport County in the EFL Trophy and - having already made 22 league and cup appearances that season - was a member of the side that lost 10-1 to Manchester City in the FA Cup in January 2026..
