Sam News Cup 1st Round 1st Leg

TRURO CITY 1-2 EXETER

After a very slow start to the day and due to unforeseen circumstances with our transport we eventually left Exeter to travel to Truro, where we were to play Truro Ladies in the first round of the Sam's News Cup (away leg). The facilities at Truro City ground were excellent and so was the pitch. Our record against Truro (better known as Illogan) was not that impressive, but we were determined to put that right.

This being a home and away basis we wanted to get the best result possible. We started well and took advantage of the good footballing surface, moving the ball well. Truro also played strong and fast and seemed to settle quicker. They were quick on the break and made no mistake in scoring the first goal, which their player took very well giving our keeper no chance.

Being one goal down at half-time we knew that we couldn't afford to sit back, we had it all to do now. Our second half of hard graft and good foot- balling moves paid off. We had most of the play and putting plenty of pressure on the oppositions defence. The game turned for us in the 20th min of the 2nd half, we were awarded a penalty after a Truro defender hand balled. Mandy Langnan placed the ball well and we all felt great relief when the ball hit the back of the net, a good goal under great pressure. From that moment we didn't look back. Both our subs were used and it was Trish who hit an absolutely great goal, which powered into the back of the net to give us a lovely win.

The whole team performance was one to be proud of and it shows we can come back from behind with plenty of fight.

Individual Match Award  ...  Mandy Bowen.
