Higgins, Matt
Matt Higgins was appointed as Exeter City club secretary in June 2019 and also served as secretary of the club board. He later worked for Portsmouth, Swansea City, Newport County and West Ham United in various capacities.
A football studies graduate of Southampton Solent University, he later gained a sports law qualification from Liverpool John Moores University. Having started as an an academy scout for Torquay United, he worked for AFC Bournemouth as an academy coach and in football development for the Hampshire FA prior to becoming a referees’ co-ordinator for the Football Association.
Arriving at St James’ Park in May 2019, Matt was with the Grecians for eighteen months as club secretary whilst also undertaking scouting duties. He then took a job in Portsmouth’s academy followed by stints at Swansea City and Newport County where he was general manager ahead of assuming the position of assistant secretary at West Ham United until 2026.
