Biographical Text
Oldham-born Ryan Rydel, then twenty-four, joined Exeter City on loan from Stockport County in June 2025. He had started his professional career with Fleetwood Town and had helped Stockport rise from the National League to League One.
Described as a left-back or midfielder, he had joined Fleetwood as a scholar/trainee in 2017 and, after signing a professional deal in 2018, made thirteen league appearances - with additional games when on loan at Lancaster City - before moving to National League side Stockport County for an "undisclosed fee" in April 2021.
Making his debut for Stockport at the tail-end of 2020/21, he made thirty-two league appearances when the club gained promotion from the National League in 2022 and another twenty-six in League Two during 2022/23. Subsequently featuring on only half-a-dozen occasions during the 2023/24 League Two championship season, he had 17 league outings the following season in League One to bring his Stockport league total to 84 (54 starts + 30 as substitute) when he signed for the Grecians on an intended season-long loan in advance of the 2025/26 campaign.
After suffering a pre-season injury, Ryan made his first-team debut for City in the first round of the League Cup against Cheltenham Town. Playing half-a-dozen games in all competitions until mid-September, he suffered futher injury and did not make another appearance until mid-February.
