Biographical Text

Former Southampton and Swindon Town goalkeeper Jack Bycroft, then twenty-three, signed for Exeter City on the eve of the 2025/26 season.

Growing up in Swindon, Jack had been an academy player with Southampton before becoming a scholar/trainee with the Hampshire club in 2018.  Subsequently spending five-and-a-half seasons with the Saints, he enjoyed  loan spells at Weymouth, Dorchester Town, Taunton Town, Aldershot Town and Oxford City. Of these he was particularly successful at Taunton where he was named in the National League South team of the season. Jack also featured for England at under-19 level during his time at St Mary's.

Leaving Southampton without making a first-team appearance, he joined Swindon Town in January 2024 where he soon claimed the first-team jersey as he went on to make nineteen appearances during the remainder of his first season back home in Wiltshire. Having been given a initial eighteen month contract, he added a further twenty-five appearances in all competitions in 2024/25 although few of these came after the end of January 2025.

Declining a new deal at Swindon in the summer of 2025, Jack appeared for the Grecians in a pre-season friendly at Torquay before agreeing a two-year deal with City at end of July 2025. He arrived at St James' Park at the same time as fellow 'keeper Joe Whitworth was starting his second season on loan from Crystal Palace and, acting as Whitworth's understudy in the league, made his debut in the EFL Trophy against Cardiff City in September 2025.
