Camble
Biographical Text
Camble appeared for St Sidwell’s United in the inaugural 1901/02 season.
A player called Camble played for St Sidwell’s United against Friernhay in February 1902. It’s possible this was an incorrect spelling for George Campbell.
Otherwise a number of players called ‘Camble’ appear to have been associated with either St Sidwell's United or Exeter City in the first-quarter of the 20th century. The links between these individuals is unclear - or even how many there were.
Other occurrences arise from 1903/04 and, several seasons later, a local amateur of the same name appeared for in a practice match in 1910/11 during the early seasons of the club's professional era when the reserves were in the Plymouth and District League.
Rather later, between 1921 and 1923, a player called Camble was playing for the reserves in the Southern League. Birth records - where some individuals are rather young to play and others too old - do not help with clarification. Further information would be appreciated.
