Southampton-based Steve Exley, who had a varied business background alongside football and cricket connections, was an Exeter City director between May 2024 and October 2025.

Originally from Newton Abbot, Mr Exley was an accountancy graduate of Huddersfield University who had worked for KPMG, the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, Asda and Selfridges as well as a head of finance at Manchester City and a finance/operations director of Millwall. Moving to Southampton in 2022 he became group finance director of Hampshire County Cricket and its associated business before joining Wightlink Ferries as finance director in 2005.

He was on the board of Exeter City towards the end of Nick Hawker’s period as club chair.
