Edwards, Pete
Pete Edwards, a long-time councillor and leader of Exeter City Council, was an Exeter City supporter and invariably sympathetic towards the club and its intentions. He was particularly involved with the construction of the Adam Stansfield stand which he officially opened in 2018.
Mr Edwards was an Exeter city councillor for Barton between 1984 and 1988 and for Mincinglake and Whipton from 1995 to his retirement in 2019. He was council leader for the final eight years of his career as an elected representative during which time he oversaw the refurbishment of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and - as befitted a former bus driver - the construction of the new bus station. He also saw the Rugby World Cup coming to the city in 2015.
On the occasion of Mr Edwards's death in October 2021 Julian Tagg, then Exeter City president and director of external affairs, described him as a "fantastic advocate" for Exeter City and particularly praised him for being "absolutely instrumental and vocal" in facilitating the collaboration between the city council, club and developers behind the completion of the Adam Stansfield stand. To this effect Pete Edwards was invited to perform the opening ceremony for the stand in October 2018; this being recorded by a plaque in the concourse.
