Biographical Text
Alex Jackson, a former Plymouth Argyle player, worked as Exeter City’s lottery manager in the mid-1980.
Alex started his career in West of Scotland junior football with Shettleston and, having won Scottish international youth honours, turned professional with Birmingham City in 1958. Making just six league appearances, he then moved on to Plymouth Argyle after twelve months and in an injury hit five-year stay netted 23 times in 67 league games.
Finishing his career with Weymouth, he stayed in Dorset as the club’s commercial manager before performing a similar role at Torquay United in the mid-1970s where he helped establish a lottery.

Thanks to Dave Street, a school friend, I spent five or six weeks during the summer of 1975 writing names and addresses on lottery cards as part of Alex Jackson's commercial set-up at Plainmoor. Quite a range of characters including Fred and David Easton - father and son who both had commercial roles with the club with Dave later becoming Torquay United's secretary - and Alan Merson who soon left for London and subsequent notoriety as the man behind the Beyond the Penn Inn internet message board.
