Biographical Text
Former Plymouth Argyle Jim Furnell goalkeeper was chief scout during Bobby Saxton’s time as Exeter City manager.
Jim Furnell started as a youngster with Burnley but only mde two league appearances in eight seasons before signing for Liverpool in 1961 for whom he played twenty-eight times in the Football League. Subsequently spending five years with Arsenal (141 league games) and another two at Rotherham United, he arrived at Plymouth Argyle in 1970 where he made 183 league appearances in a six-year stay.
After briefly coaching at Plymouth, Jim followed his former team mate Bobby Saxton to Exeter City as chief scout in 1977 and eventually the pair worked together again at Blackburn Rovers where Jim was still involved in coaching until the age of sixty.
