James, Stuart

Stuart James wrote about Exeter City for the local media from the low point of the Mike Lewis and John Russell season, through the early days of supporter ownership, and on to spells in both non-league football and League One.

First writing about Exeter City in 2002, Stuart had a baptism of fire as the club veered from crisis to crisis with arguably as much to report behind the scenes as on the field of play. Originally mainly associated with the Express and Echo and Western Morning News (where he was later sports editor), Stuart was probably the first Exeter City correspondent to be more widely read online - through the Devon Live website that emerged out of his newspaper's original digital offering - than through print.

Throughout his time covering the club Stuart always displayed enthusiasm for the club and, at a time when local sports reporting elsewhere was losing some of its edge, was more interested than many in questioning events and decisions whenever he saw it as appropriate.
