Vine, David
David Vine, a well-known BBC sports reporter and presenter for many years, covered Exeter City for Westward TV in the early 1960s.
Born in South Devon, but raised near Barnstaple, David Vine (born 1935) started on the North Devon Journal at the age of seventeen before joining the fledgling Westward TV at the time of its launch in 1961. Regularly reporting on Exeter City, Plymouth Argyle and Torquay United, he remained with the Plymouth-based station until 1966 when he joined the BBC. Soon rising to prominence he presented shows such as Sportscene, It's a Knockout, Quiz Ball, Rugby Special, Match of the Day, A Question of Sport and many others. In latter years he was particularly known for presenting the world snooker championships.
David Vine died in 2009 at the age of seventy-four.
