Hancock, Olivia

Olivia Hancock, then aged six, came to attention when she was invited by the Brazilian sports federation to the 2012 Olympics men's football final on account of her being an Exeter City supporter. Becoming an advocate for the participation of girls in football, she later worked for Leicester City's community programme.

As a small child Olivia, from Leicestershire, had been an Exeter City mascot at both home and away games. Later attending the 2012 Olympic football tournament held in Britain, Olivia and her parents had a chance meeting with the president of the Brazilian football federation who was greatly interested in the Exeter City link. She was then invited to attend the final of the mens' tournament between Brazil and Mexico as a guest of the federation. Olivia's story was subsequently featured on Brazilian cable TV and she was given various mementoes of the occasion whilst presenting an Exeter City tee-shirt to the federation president.

Seven years later in 2019, the local press in Sussex was describing Olivia as "a 13-year-old activist who has raised thousands for the Teenage Cancer Trust and helped homeless children's charities in Brazil" when she paid a visit to watch Lewes FC women at the invitation of the club. By this time she was campaigning against sexism in football and had recently made a short film on the subject with a particular theme of her work being  a drive to introduce girls' football into every primary school. When visiting Brazil the previous year with a charity working with homeless and underprivileged children, Olivia had already initiated 'Girls Play Football Day'.

After becoming increasingly involved in the 'Let Girls Play' campaign and winning youth citizen awards, she joined Leicester City in the Community as an apprentice community coach on completing her A levels in 2024. This involved her promoting and developing initiatives such as Premier League Kicks and Active Girls and, for her achievements, Olivia was awarded national community coach of the year in 2026. Around this time she also ran her third London marathon in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.
