Truscott, Arthur

Arthur Truscott was captain of the team during the first concerted effort, a decade before the formation of Exeter City, to establish an association football club that carried the name of the city of Exeter.

Born in the St Austell area in 1875, Albert Percival Truscott was a pupil at Park House school when he captained the Exeter Association club during the 1891/92 season. Formed by Henry Tucker, the school's headteacher, the club built upon the efforts of the previous winter when Mr Tucker had organised a number of informal games. Although this was to be a more prolonged effort, the club fizzled out after its first season and was succeeded by a second club of the same name that operated between 1893 and 1896. The team of 1891/92 played its home games at Matford Lane in St Leonard's close to Mr Tucker's school.

Mr Truscott appears to have died aged thirty in County Durham in 1905.
