Lee Gardiner, a defender from Bristol who was at school with future West Ham player Julian Dicks, signed associate schoolboy forms for Exeter City in 1981.

The fourteen-year-old from South Bristol was to start his adult football career with Brislington before a stint turning out for Bristol City's reserves in the Western League. Thereafter he played for a number of clubs including Clevedon Town and Weston-super-Mare. 

Coming from outside the Exeter area he most likely only trained with Exeter City during the school holidays.
