Oakes, Lesley
Lesley Oakes was appointed Exeter City's financial controller in autumn 1982.
Lesley, aged twenty seven at the time, had worked in City's commercial department for four years having arrived at St James' Park from Lloyd's Bank. Her new role meant she was in charge of all the club's income and expenditure.
Speaking to the Express and Echo Lesley was reported as saying:
"It's an exciting challenge both for the club and myself. Soccer is supposed to be male orientated, but why not a woman to offer a few fresh ideas? Fulham have a woman secretary, and there's an important part we can play".
