A former pupil of Queen's College in Taunton - where he broke a number of cricket records - Jake was twenty-four when he made his limited-overs debut for Hampshire in 2017 prior to making his first-class debut for Warwickshire four years later. His career then had an unexpected boost with the advent of The Hundred limited-overs competition in 2021 when he was a success for the Southern Braves. This led to a career playing in similar competitions around the world with the likes of Barbados Royals, Fortune Barishal, Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. He also played for England Lions and Kent.

Always keen to use social media to show his enthusiasm for Exeter City, Jake was interviewed by Scott Palfrey, City's media manager, after the Southern Braves won the inaugural The Hundred title in 2021. Then working back at Queen's College, he explained how he had started watching the Grecians at the age of ten and had once gone to an away game at Carlisle. He later brought West Indian cricketer Carlos Braithwaite to an FA Cup game against Bradford City in November 2021.
