Alan Crockford was a regular contributor to supporter-produced unofficial Exeter City 'fanzines', then a relatively recent development, from the late 1980s into the 1990s. He was later involved in the 1931 Fund.

Having become known for his fanzine contributions during Ivor Doble's time as chairman, Alan was part of a group of supporters who responded to the club's request to raise funds to purchase Gary Alexander from West Ham United in 2000;  a grouping that evolved to lay the groundwork for the establishment of the supporters' trust.

Continuing as a regular contributor to Exeweb, an online discussion board for City supporters, Alan also helped organise the 1931 Fund that supported the wages of a young player every season.
