Ricardo Calçado - who visited St James' Park in 2025 - was a representative of Onda Solidária, a Brazilian charity supported by Exeter City. 

Ricardo, who attended the game at St James' Park against Bolton Wanderers in January 2025, worked on behalf of Onda Solidária which sought to promote social inclusion through generating opportunities in low income communities in Brazil. Exeter City had recently added Onda Solidária to the group of charities it supported through its Community Fund.

Ten years previously here had been a bucket collection for Onda Solidária at the July 2015 St James’ Park friendly between the Grecians and Fluimense under-19s which followed in the wake of City’s players visiting one of the charity’s projects in the Brazilian village of Vila dos Sonhos in July 2014.

Onda Solidária was also supported by Fluminense, the club that played at the Laranjeiras stadium where the Grecians faced Brazil in 1914.

Ricardo himself was no stranger to  Devon having studied and lived in Plymouth together with raising funds for flood relief in Mozambique with the help of people in Teignmouth.
