Chris Hargreaves, who was playing for Torquay United at the time, joined Exeter City as an under-16 academy coach in 2008. He remained in the post for four years before later managing Torquay United and Yeovil Town.

Chris joined Grimsby Town from school in 1989 and, after making around fifty league appearances for his hometown club, went on to enjoy a seventeen-year career in the Football League with the likes of Hull City, Hereford United, Plymouth Argyle, Northampton Town, Brentford and Oxford United. Dropping into the Conference with Oxford United in 2006, it was strongly rumoured he would be signing for Exeter City the following year only for him to join Torquay United then managed by former Grecian Paul Buckle.

Settling in the Exeter area, Chris took his first steps towards coaching by working in City’s academy alongside former player Shaun Taylor. Finishing his playing career back at Oxford in 2010, he also wrote a book, worked as a non-league pundit for various TV channels and penned a weekly column for the Express and Echo. 

In charge of Torquay United when the club was relegated from the Football League for a second time in 2014, he subsequently became under-21 coach at Bristol Rovers before a brief stint as manager of Yeovil Town in 2022.

His son Cameron Hargreaves was a scholar/trainee with Exeter City before playing in the EFL with Bristol Rovers.
