Pete Odgers, who later became a football and tennis commentator for the BBC, Eurosport and other broadcasters, provided commentaries of matches at St James’ Park for visually-impaired listeners between 2009 and 2011. 

Growing up in Exeter, Pete was an accomplished tennis player in his youth and attended Loughborough University before undertaking a journalism course at University College Falmouth. Whilst later working as a tennis coach on a development programme run by Exeter University, he started covering the Grecians on behalf of the Royal National Institute for the Blind.

With this proving to be valuable experience, he gradually moved away from coaching into commentating working on a freelance basis for Channel 4, TVNZ, ITN, talkSPORT, CNN and a host of sports governing bodies. Although he still covered football, tennis  remained Pete’s speciality as he embarked on long associations with Eurosport from 2015 and the BBC with whom he covered Wimbledon and other tournaments from 2017.  

Pete's time covering Exeter City overlapped with that of Matt Cotton who later became a sports writer for the Times and Sunday Times.
