Noel Edmonds, who enjoyed a fifty-year career in radio and television from the late 1960s, was often cited as a ‘celebrity supporter’ of Exeter City during the time he lived in Devon.

Born in Essex in 1948, Noel Edmonds started as a DJ on Radio Luxembourg as a twenty-year-old before moving to BBC Radio One the following year. He moved into television on Top of the Pops in 1972 and later appeared on Multi-Coloured Swap Shop, Top Gear, The Late Late Breakfast Show, Telly Addicts, Saturday Roadshow, Noel’s House Party and Deal or No Deal?

Before eventually moving to New Zealand, Noel Edmonds lived in Devon for many years owning property in both Exeter and Jacobstowe near Okehampton. During this time he is known to have watched games at Exeter City, sometimes from the Big Bank. It was reported that, amongst other games, he was at both the FA Cup game at Manchester United in 2005 and the home tie against Liverpool in the same competition in 2016.

The Guardian carried an article by City supporter Neil Le Milliere on the eve of the January 2005 replay against Manchester United suggesting that the embryonic supporters' trust had unsuccessfully approached Mr Edmonds (along with retired racing driver Nigel Mansell and Tim Martin of Wetherspoon's) for financial backing at the club’s time of crisis.
