Josh joined Exeter City's academy in 2013 from Yeovil Town and later won a scholarship to university in Canada.

He moved to St Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Canada together with Dan Hayfield (a former City academy player who later worked for City's academy and played for Tiverton Town, Bath City and Torquay United).

Playing university football with St Francis Xavier until 2022, Josh also appeared for FC Buffalo (United States) and Calgary Foothills (Canada).
