Biographical Text

Fred Dart was chairman of Exeter City during an unremarkable period in the club's history between 1970 and 1974.

Mr Dart, a Shaldon businessman and former Torquay United director, joined the Exeter City board in January 1964 and served as vice-chair from August 1965 under the stewardship of both Reg Rose and Leslie Kerslake.

Appointed acting chair after the resignation of Mr Kerslake in August 1970, he was confirmed on as the permanent occupant of the senior position in January 1971.

Remaining in post until reaching the age of seventy in 1974, he oversaw a period in which the Grecians finished in mid-table in Division Four under the guidance of the long-serving John Newman who served the club as manager longer than Mr Dart was chairman.

Frederick Edwin John Dart died in Torquay in 1996 at the age of ninety-two.
