Cigarette cards went into national circulation in the early twentieth century, becoming collectors items depicting famous amateur and professional footballers (Woolridge 2002, 56).

The Uzzell Family has a collection of eight cigarette cards. Some of these cards depict Exeter City's players in photographic form while others represent artists depictions of players, team colours and Exeter's nickname, the Grecians.
