Sonny was Groundsman at St James Park for many years.

"Christopher Bennett stayed friends with Sonny & his wife Mary not forgetting Dinky there dog after I left city he was a hard task master too us apprentices when the ground was to wet for sonny to cut & roll he used to get us apprentices to roll the pitch pulling sleepers across with ropes, still it didn't do us any harm, stayed friends right until Sonny passed away in Ilfracombe good memories RIP Sonny & Mary"
